The Qatar Medical Physics Society (QaMPS) successfully conducted a 1 (day) virtual training course on laser Safety entitled “The Safe Use of Medical Lasers”, which took place on Tuesday 21 September 2021.
This training course is needed for laser supervisors, operators and other persons heavily involved with procedures using medical lasers.
Course presenter was Dr Ishmail Badr, Director of the Radiological Protection Centre, St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, UK and a certified Laser Protection Adviser.
This course provided basic training in the fundamentals of laser safety for all persons involved with medical laser procedures. The training concentrated on the practical aspects of laser safety and is not specific to any particular laser (and does not include applications training). The course gave the background to the clinical use of different lasers and provided detailed information about laser safety eyewear and environmental laser safety issues.
The interactive sessions were attended by 35 participants who have successfully passed the quiz offered at the end of the course and received a certificate of completion.
